Dimensions (inches):
Description:
CARVED EAGLE ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE STAPF, HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, 1890-1910:

Patriotic eagle attributed to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania carver George Stapf (1862-1958), made circa 1890-1910. Stapf produced eagles for Government buildings and Civil War Veteran's (G.A.R.) halls. He made them in various styles, many or all of which held waving Stars & Stripes flags and shields.

This particular carving is diminutive in scale. It features cross-hatch painted stars that lend an additional whimsical attribute to the great folk style of a skilled hand. Stapf's eagles have great personality, are very desirable in the folk art collecting community, and are far more rare than the sternboard-style carvings of popular Maine carver John Haley Bellamy.

Condition: Minor paint loss. There are no serious condition issues.
