Description:
HUGE, MAGNIFICENT PAIR OF AMERICAN SEWER TILE PLANTERS IN THE FORM OF TREE TRUNKS:

This pair American sewer tile planters, in the form of tree trunks, is the largest I have ever encountered. Found at the Adirondack Show in mid-September, in rural, upstate, New York, they would be great for any rustic setting, but could also add an artistic edge to an ultra-modern, contemporary apartment, either as end tables or pedestals for sculpture with glass tops added. They could also be combined to support the top of a single, large dining table.

Sculptural sewer tile pottery is one of my favorite mediums in 19th century, American ceramics. Found primarily in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio, it is often molded into whimsical, appealing forms and glazed in attractive shades of red or brown with a pearly sheen.
