Description:
QUEBEC PARCHEESI BOARD WITH EXTRAORDINARY GRAPHICS & COLORS & ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE PROVENANCE:

This Quebec Parcheesi board, with extraordinary colors and graphics, has the unusual feature of being linked to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Mounties), as evidenced by the initials inside the four arms of the centermost Maltese cross design.

Based on a similar cross that appears on one of the insignia badges for the RCMP, the cross may indicate a rescue unit within the service. A very similar Maltese cross is used on the current first aid instructor badge.

Made ca 1885-1890's, the board is constructed of hardwood and the molded, rectangular design is very much like that of Canadian draughts boards (similar to checkers, but with more spaces). There is, in fact, good reason for this, as there is a draughts board on the reverse side. This elongated format makes it unusual when placed among American Parcheesi boards, which is just one of the several reasons why I acquired it and why I find it so great. It can be hung either vertically or horizontally and is dynamic either way. The polychrome paint is original and vibrant and there is no restoration, save for a light cleaning.

Condition: There are age cracks in the single, wooden plank, a couple of small chips absent from one edge, and expected wear, but there are no significant condition issues.
