Blue, paint-decorated blanket chest with beautifully stylized decoration that simulates ferns or similar, arched foliage. Made of pine, sometime between roughly 1820 and 1840, there is an incorporated till on the interior, cast iron butt hinges, and a lock with a pressed brass escutcheon.
Condition: There are age cracks, though the case is extremely sound. There were once bun feet, as evidenced by double-mortised recesses on the bottom, but the box looks terrific without them. Expected wear and losses in the painted surface, with extremely minor restoration. |
