AMERICAN INDIAN (CHIPPEWA) BEADWORK GAUNTLETS WITH STARS AND FLORAL DECORATION, 1880-90
Dimensions (inches):
Description:
AMERICAN INDIAN (CHIPPEWA) BEADWORK GAUNTLETS WITH STARS AND FLORAL DECORATION, 1880-90:

Native American beadwork gauntlets with beautiful graphics and endearing wear, made of doeskin and decorated with stars and floral designs. These were probably Chippewa, made in the 1880-90 period for Indian use and not for the tourist trade, like many other beaded Indian objects that reach the antiques marketplace. Some were sold to soldiers and were popular during the Indian Wars (1866-1890) and the Spanish-American War (1898) era.

Mounting: The solid walnut molding dates to the period between 1860 and 1880. It retains an early surface and its original gilded liner. The gloves have been hand-stitched to 100% hemp fabric. Spacers keep the textiles away from the glass, which is U.V. protective.

Condition: Significant soiling accompanied by minor to moderate wear from regular use.
