MAINE DRESSING TABLE IN ORIGINAL PAINT WITH A CHROME YELLOW GROUND & VINEGAR DECORATION, CA 1825-1840's
Dimensions (inches): 31.25" w x 39.5" h x 18.75" d
Description:
This beautiful, Maine-origin, paint-decorated dressing table has a chrome yellow background and a beautifully scrolled backsplash with sponged, vinegar-painted decoration. The drawers in the top register complement the splash in color, but the style of the decoration instead mimics crotch-grained mahogany. There is striped trim in black and Windsor green and there are gold floral rosettes just above the center of each front leg. The leaf decoration around and below the brass Sheraton knob is interesting and whimsical.

Constructed of pine and made ca 1825-1840's, the style is country Sheraton and the round legs terminate with in a smooth, bulbous turning. The proportions and the painted surface and are excellent for the period.

Provenance: Exhibited for three years in the home of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in Bedford, New York.
