PAINT-DECORATED, BOOK-BOX STYLE, FOLDING BACKGAMMON BOARD, MUSTARD, PERSIMMON RED, & BLACK WITH FLORAL DECORATION, ca 1880:
Folding, book-box style backgammon board retaining its original paint-decorated surface. The interior consists of red and black points, finely trimmed with red, green, and black pinstripes. The exterior is dark persimmon red and black. Painted in the center of each panel is a floral design. On one side is a callalily and on the other is a potted petunia. The surface and design are very nice. Dating to the period between 1870 and 1890, the box is constructed of wood with brass hinges and was either homemade or produced in a small, cottage industry setting.
Condition: There are minor dents, scratches, and losses, indicative of use and age.
